In biology, we keep hearing abot cell wall and cell membrane, so what are the differences? Well, the first difference is, not every cell has cell wall, but every cell does have cell membrane. Cell membranes are on both plant cells and animal cells, while animal cells usually don’t have cell walls. Some bacteria and fungi has cell walls. Cell membrane is also known as plasma membrane, and it is an outer covering of the cell that is made up of a bilipid layer and glocular proteins. Cell membrane helps to enclose the cell organelles and cytosol inside a cell. Cell membrane also helps ions to transfer from the inside to the outside of the cell and vice versa. A cell wall is a ridgid, protective layer and it covers the cell membrane. For plants, cell walls are mainly made up of cellulose, while a cell wall in bacteria is made up of peptidoglycan,and for fungi it is made up of chitin. For archaea, it is a little bit more complicated. So I will skip this to make things clearer.
