Biography
*
EXAMPLE BIOGRAPHY-- During the 1990s, I lived in Paris, France for 11 years. In the early 2000s, after returning to the US, I worked at the Weather Channel, presenting the weather in French, and later went on to AccuWeather where I presented the weather in both French and English. After leaving AccuWeather I worked for several years as a science writer at University of Tennessee, where I wrote press releases about research, and translated many of those press releases into French for French-speaking reporters. I also produced a video series (in both English and French) about research and new discoveries at Tennessee. I have always enjoyed language and writing, putting words together like puzzle pieces to convey information or to inspire an emotion. I love grammar and etymology, discovering the history of irregular verbs, and helping others to edit their work to develop crisp, meaningful prose. I have no children except for 3 dogs - and my husband is a research scientist at a lab. I enjoy night light and music festivals and doing agility training with my dogs.
Experience (Be sure to also quanitify the amount of tutoring experience you have)
*
EXAMPLE EXPERIENCE-- I have mostly tutored French, including ESL students. In the 1990s I lived in France for seven years, which is how I became fluent. I later worked in French-language industries in the United States. These included broadcasting (presenting the weather in French at the Weather Channel and AccuWeather) and science writing (at Penn State, where I translated press releases). I help my students by offering the perspective of someone who also learned French as a second language, but became fluent through immersion and industry experience. Because I also have a writing and English background I can explain the structure of French grammar and syntax in a way that clicks with English speakers.
